CornerView and Goodby to March

My dear friends,
in bloom and Goodbye March fit together perfectly, right?
The March says goodbye or I say goodbye to March,
the month that brings spring.
You know, here in Bavaria the spring reaches us at last.
While in the north, at the North Sea, in Berlin, Frankfurt and Hamburg
already spear the first buds and appear the first flowers.
Here, in Bavaria everything takes a little bit more time.

First I want to tell you about my month, one of the most boring in this year,
and then I will show you “in bloom”.
Or what is going to happen soon … here in Bavaria.
As I said, my March was an uneventful month.
He hadn’t much to offer, but he wasn’t bad.
Here is what was going on:

– a friend of mine and her girl came to visit me.
We gone to the playground with lovely warm weather,
after that we ate apple cake I had previously baked,
and here is the recipe for the delicious and crispy apple cake:

300 g spelled flour
1 ts baking powder
145 g sugar
180 g butter
1 pinch of salt
15 ml of water
1/2 lemon
750 g apples
1 ts cinnamon

– 180 g flour, 70 g sugar, 100 g butter, water and salt knead to a smooth dough
– do the dough in the fridge for 30 minutes
– peel, rub, squeeze the lemon
– Apples into quarters and sprinkle with lemon juice
– preheat oven to 180 degrees
– roll out the dough, line it in a form and prick it with a fork
–  prove the dough with apples, sprinkle it with grated lemon peel, with a little bit sugar and cinnamon
– process the remaining flour and sugar and margarine to crumble and spread over the apples
– bake the cake in the oven on the middle rack 50-55 minutes

– a friend of mine, my daughter and I visited the cinema in Regensburg,
we saw a German comedy
with the wonderful Palina Rojinski, a Russian-Jewish actress and presenter on MTV
and Elyas M’Barek, a German actor with Tunisian roots …
and I tell you, when the man laughs, then ♥ …
but enough 😉 the movie was funny and very romantic.

– Before the cinema we were in a bar and drank delicious cocktail.
It was not so late in the evening and Happy Hour.
Do you know Happy Hour? Food / drinks for half of the price?
Behind us sat a young woman who took a strong advantage of the happy hour,
minutes later she fell from the chair and could not walk
-> Conclusion: the ambulance had to come.

Friends came with their children and there was another apple cake
(because it was so good that I baked it all over again!)
We went for a cake-earn-walk.
So. First walk to deserve the cake, and then eat the cake.

– The best in this month, I now have a week off. I will not do much:
to learn english (I was already four times in the course and it’s great fun),
to read a lot,
to have dinner with my colleagues
and to celebrate Easter … but more about next month.

So. Here’s a summary of what I saw and read this month …
Movies:
Traumfrauen (the German comedy)
Blood Diamond (great played by Leonardo DiCaprio)
Series:
Better call Saul (with the very brilliant Bob Odenkirk)
Suits (with Gabriel Macht … and yes, the man is even pretty to look at)
Bloodline – a new series on Netflix. Until now, thrilling, so I want to look further.
Book:
Game of Thrones (reads quite easily in English)

Imagination –
and I can only think of one word: spring.

With each passing day spring comes more and more,
with each passing day it becomes brighter in the morning,
with each passing day the birds chirping happier.
With each passing day I can feel the sun more on the face,
and with each passing day I can smell it more intense:
spring.

CornerView – looking up

I have already told you that I learn English.
English in Medicine.
English at home.
I read English books, just “Wild” and just “Game Of Thrones“.
I watch English movies and series, just  “Better Call Saul” and “Suits“.
I have the feeling, especially when I read, I understand a lot.
When the English teacher talks to us, then I understand quite well.
And when I watch series, then I understand a half of it (Thank God there are subtitles ;))
But if I am speak, then it’s all over.
Then I can’t think one word, then all records are gone, who were aware of before.
Weird right?

February

February is a short month,
a dark weather month,
which is slightly lighter at the end.
February is usually not a special month for me,
more of one a quiet.
One who is a bit slow and sometime over.
A few highlights there anyway, and that I want to tell you:

– The first days I lay with a cold in bed

– now I had the feeling that I have to do something for me.
A day or two in a Spa are too expensive,
so I went to a cosmetic shop:
creams for day and night, peelings, ampoules for applying, beauty and relaxation promised me
… and I used them all.

– Among the many winter boots in sale I have also found summer shoes,
which I bought immediately

– I photographed friends and their children.
Or rather, the children of friends, the friends remained more in the background.
Do you know how fun it is to observe small children?
They do funny things, they often have so funny faces and gestures.
What lovely afternoon!

– I had a few days off – at last.

– I started the days off with a visit to a sauna together with my best friend.
This is something new for me, and I had doubts whether I like it.
But it was not as bad as I thought.
My favorite sauna  was 55 Grad hot and smelled deliciously of a mixture of mint and apple.
And when I left the sauna, I was happy and relaxed.

– After the sauna I was at the Sushi House in Regensburg with myfriends (did I mention that I really like sushi?)

– The other day I had breakfast at Cafe Lila in Regensburg with my daughter.
Here you can order many different breakfast:
German, Bavarian (white sausages with sweet mustard),
French (which my daughter ate and there was a lot of good cheese),
Scandinavian, English, cowboy breakfast, champagne breakfast or
American (which I ate. It was delicious with fried ham, egg, Cornflake with maple syrup, toast and jam)

– I bought tickets to an opera in April – yeah!

– Since the end of February I visit an English course … ( I told you that I am a nurse?)
and the hospital where I work, provides for the staff a course in English medicine
(and the reality is – to my great horror – I can not speak English!)

– I have seen my favorite author … one of the best writers out there … live at a reading.
The reading was in a beautiful room (with large chandeliers and columns) in the theater in Regensburg:
TC Boyle.
Do you know him? If not, you have to read it. Absolutely!
I recommend “water music”.

– Yesterday at the last day of February friends visited me. We cooked spaghetti carbonara. Delicious!
And played two games I always lost. Not my day! 😉

– I saw several movies this month, because I just logged into netflix. You know netflix?
I do not count all of the films that would be too much,
but I’ve seen two love stories and they were brilliant:
Und nebenbei das große Glück (Un bonheur n’arrive jamais seul) = a French film
Hannas Reise = German film

– I have seen the serie “Fargo“, a production of the Coen brothers.
The name Coen says all, I think. They are awesome.
The dialogues are razor sharp and full of pointe,
the action for some abstruse, but unique. And the actors are great.

– Then I was  in cinema on friday for the highly acclaimed film: American sniper by Clint Eastwood.
Clint Eastwood directing credits are always worth seeing and impressive. He knows his craft.

And now:
How was your February? What have you read, seen and done in this month?
